Community Development
Responsible development should strengthen neighborhoods, expand affordable housing, and protect longtime residents from being displaced. City budget, zoning, and development decisions must prioritize safer streets, improved sidewalks, better lighting, accessible parks, and welcoming public spaces for families, seniors, and young people. District 8’s small businesses and commercial corridors also deserve fair access to city resources and economic development opportunities. Regular town halls and community roundtables will help ensure residents have a meaningful voice in the decisions affecting their neighborhoods.
Safe and Healthy Communities
Safer neighborhoods require more than enforcement alone. City investments should support violence prevention, youth employment, mentorship, reentry services, and other community-based strategies that address the conditions contributing to crime. Strong oversight of public safety agencies is also essential to promoting transparency, accountability, and trust. Partnerships among city departments, schools, neighborhood organizations, faith communities, and local businesses can help create safer streets, well-maintained public spaces, and more responsive city services.
Mental Health and Wellness
Mental health and wellness should be treated as essential parts of a safe and thriving community. City funding and partnerships can help strengthen access to crisis prevention, addiction recovery, peer support, and culturally responsive mental health services. Better coordination among city agencies, service providers, and community organizations will make it easier for youth, adults, seniors, and families to connect with the care and support they need.
